Area of Research

Phytochemical and pharmacological investigations of the active principles of medicinal plants with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory acitvity play the major role in the group of Prof. Bauer. Special fields of interest are at present Echinacea preparations and Chinese herbs.

In detail, the main research topics are at present:

• Natural products with inhibitory activity on cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase
• Search for anti-inflammatory and antiasthmatic constituents in Chinese herbs
• Development of standardization methods for Chinese herbs
• Investigations in the field of cultivation, harvesting, and processing of Echinacea purpurea
• Investigations on the pharmaceutical quality and active principles of Echinacea species and preparations
